GM Update - Autumn 2014

This will be my last as General Manager as I have been given the opportunity to move my family over to Australia to take up an exciting role with the TradeLink business, still part of Fletcher Building. I leave the steel industry in a healthy state, but with many challenges ahead that I am sure you and the rest of the industry will rise to over the next few years. I will watch from afar with interest.

I have met many passionate people during my time at Easysteel – from within the company, our customers, and industry-wide. That passion and dedication to the steel fabrication, wider engineering, manufacturing and reinforcing industries has been a pleasure to witness and an inspiration to everyone.

Safety is always a focus for our businesses and just over a year ago, Easysteel and Cyclone implemented a set of eight Golden Rules for every member of staff to follow. When Fletcher Reinforcing came on board, we also had to work through a set of rules that were specific to the safety challenges that business faces. These were finalised and launched within the business during March and have been embraced by the Fletcher Reo teams around the country. It has been great to see the positive reaction as I have been getting around the sites.

It has also been enjoyable congratulating some of our longer serving members of the Easysteel Team. It is a rare thing nowadays to stay with one company for 30 years and I again congratulate Steve, Phil and Vini for reaching that milestone. To stay for 50 years must be incomprehensible to some of our younger staff – but Ken Hainsworth has completed that milestone and I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to talk to Ken and pick up some of his sound advice about the steel industry and wider community involvement. Well done guys!

Thank you for all your support over the last few years. I am happy I am leaving the business in a strong position to carry on its growth in to the future.
