The joy of giving goes beyond Christmas

For some families, when their child is in hospital receiving specialist medical treatment, time stands still. It's hard to focus on the necessities of day-to-day life, let alone the thought of Christmas, holidays and the new year ahead.

Our Steel Distribution businesses were keen to get behind an important cause and offer our support wherever we could and one that really stood out for us was Ronald McDonald House.

"This is a great charity that helps so many families from all around New Zealand at their three sites in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch," says Steel Distribution Marketing Manager, Neil Watson. "We really wanted to get all our team behind the important work that the Houses do and they've jumped at the opportunity."

"Everyone is asking how they can help and what plans we have for next year and while we're working through some exciting fundraising ideas, we've also already had great support for the Giving Tree in Auckland."

The Giving Tree is an initiative that sees gifts placed under the office Christmas tree with a tag attached for mums, dads, teenagers, boys and girls and babies. With a suggested gift value of $20, presents can include toys for children, pamper packs for mums and gadgets for dads to help bring festive cheer to the families staying at Ronald McDonald House in Auckland this Christmas.

Staff at Easysteel, PCC and Fletcher Reinforcing have donated a number of gifts already, which will be delivered to Auckland's Ronald McDonald House on Friday 19 December.
"It's just great to see that we have such caring and supportive staff within the business," says Neil, "and to see how enthusiastic they are about not just giving for Christmas but to continue giving of their time and their support for many months to come.
